From Skin to Foot

In the deep muddy alleyways of Soor Magra El-Oyoun, the leather tanneries district of Old Cairo, thousands of laborers work tirelessly to turn fresh cow hides into high quality leather. It's a craft that has been passed down from generation to generation, and many of the products are exported to Europe and the United States.

Now, due to the pollution and bad sanitation, the area is under threat to be cleared by the government. Some workshop owners welcome the forced move to a new district 40 km outside of the capital, while others fear it will cause them to lose much of their business.
